Description
The aim of the webinar is to discuss the pharmacotherapy, detection and management of atrial fibrillation with a focus on the role pharmacists can play in this regard.
Prof. Stephane Steurbaut is an associate professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium where he teaches pharmaceutical care and clinical pharmacy since 2010. He graduated as a pharmacist in 1996 and obtained a degree of Industrial Pharmacy in 1999. In 2007, he obtained a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences and started working at the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy of the university hospital UZ Brussel. He is currently responsible for research, education and innovation in the Department of Hospital Pharmacy at UZ Brussel and chairs the hospital’s Drug and Therapeutics Committee. Prof. Steurbaut is actively involved in teaching and research, and supervises undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy students. His research, which comprises about 50 peer-reviewed publications, is mainly related to the rational and safe use of drugs, with a particular focus on antithrombotics. He recently (co)-authored several publications about appropriate prescribing of direct oral anticoagulants and their use in specific patient populations such as patients with atrial fibrillation. He is also particularly interested in adherence (both to drugs and guidelines) and pharmacogenetics. Prof. Steurbaut is a former general board member (2015-2021) of the European Society of Clinical Pharmacy (ESCP) and was its secretary from 2017 until 2021. He became an ESCP Fellow in 2022.
