Aims/Goals

Our primary aims are to support ESCP members and colleagues in education and training in antimicrobial stewardship, to share ideas and resources, and to advocate for the clinical pharmacist to be an integral and leading part of antimicrobial stewardship teams. We will do this through the development of training and resources, networking within and beyond the ESCP network and linkages with research, academia and clinical experts as well as public and patient involvement if possible.

Establishment

The AMS SIG was first considered at the annual symposium in Krakow in 2024 and was launched in Grenoble in 2025. Members come from a range of backgrounds, but all have a strong interest in antimicrobial stewardship and supporting clinical pharmacist involvement in this important area.

Main activities and projects

To achieve the aims, the AMS SIG plan to:

• Provide learning opportunities, such as webinars, and workshops at ESCP conferences.

• Understand current engagement, by reviewing how confident and active ESCP members feel in delivering AMS activities.

• Explore the role of clinical pharmacists in AMS through a wider scoping review.

• Collect best practice examples from across Europe to inspire and guide others.

• Bring members together, by hosting regular SIG meetings to share knowledge and ideas.

• Create educational materials, like guides on attending AMS ward rounds or penicillin allergy delabelling.

• Collaborate with other professional groups involved in developing antibiotic guidelines to support a consistent approach.

• Measure impact, by developing clear ways to assess AMS activities led by clinical pharmacists.

• Encourage international projects and research, to share challenges and solutions across countries and healthcare systems.
