Learning objectives

After the webinar, participants should be able to:

  • define basic concepts of medication safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • search for relevant information sources available in clinical practice using evidence-based practices
  • evaluate drug-related problems related to use of drugs in pregnancy or lactation based on clinical case reports

Description

The use of medicines during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be recommended when the benefits outweigh the risks. Medications should be used only when clearly indicated, for the shortest length of time as necessary, and at the lowest effective dose. Interdisciplinary collaboration is essential while pharmacists play a key role in giving advice on the use of medicines during pregnancy and breastfeeding. This is supported by high-quality, recent, and evidence-based information.

The aim of the webinar is to increase knowledge of relevant information sources and to learn a systematic approach in searching for information and assessing the risk of pharmacotherapy in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
