Description
Speaker:
Marie Ekenberg, MSc in Pharmacy
- PhD student at Uppsala University, Sweden
Learning objectives
By the end of the webinar, participants should be able to:
- Explain how digital medication adherence technologies can support patients
- Describe what the ENABLE repository is and how you can use it
Description
The aim of the webinar is to introduce digital medication adherence technologies – what they are, how they can support patients in their daily treatment, and where you can find the right tools.
Marie is a PhD candidate dedicated to understanding how digital technologies can strengthen medication adherence, particularly for people living with chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes. Marie’s work is driven by a simple belief: as healthcare becomes increasingly digital, we must take advantage of these developments and make the most of them. Marie also believe it is essential that patients are actively involved in shaping the tools designed to support them.
In Marie’s research, she explore how medication adherence technologies (MATech) can empower patients to feel more confident and capable in managing their treatment. Many people with chronic illnesses describe feeling alone or overwhelmed by their medication routines, and Marie wants to contribute to solutions that help them feel supported, informed, and connected rather than isolated.
Since starting her PhD, Marie has been deeply involved in the ENABLE COST Action (2020–2024), a European network of 250 collaborators from 40 countries working together to advance best practices and technologies related to medication adherence. Within this initiative, Marie participated in several working groups and led the Swedish efforts to identify and collaborate with national technology developers – work that contributed to the creation of the ENABLE repository of medication adherence technologies.
After the conclusion of the ENABLE project, Marie continued this mission through the ENABLE Adherence Network & Innovation Hub, which promotes the adoption of effective medication adherence technologies (MATech) and medication adherence–advancing interventions (MAEI) across Europe.
